ABOUT US
From the bustling backlots of Fox Studios in Sydney to the global IMAX® stage, Definition Studios has been on an epic storytelling journey for more than 20 years.
Originally launched as Definition Films in Sydney, the studio initially made its mark in post-production, contributing to some of Australia's biggest cinematic hits.
But the story didn’t stop there.
Eight years ago, founder David Gross traded the cutting rooms for the outside world — pivoting into showrunning and executive producing breathtaking, immersive documentaries for the IMAX® and Giant Screen formats.
Today, Definition Studios is leading the charge with a bold slate of original films and series that bring nature, history, and science to life in jaw-dropping scale.
In 2022, our passion for what we love was recognised with the Giant Screen Cinema Association’s Industry Award for Best Film for Serengeti: Journey to the Heart of Africa — a stunning tribute to one of Earth’s most iconic ecosystems.
Through powerful partnerships with global distributors like K2 Studios (USA) and MGM, Definition Studios continues to expand its reach, producing adventurous, awe-inspiring stories designed to captivate and educate audiences around the world.

Penguins:
A Love Tale
Penguins aren’t just icy Antarctica icons — they also live in Africa and Australia. On land, these normally graceful ocean pros are adorably awkward and need a little help. The story follows two penguin families: Jackass penguins at Boulders Beach in South Africa and the world’s smallest penguins in Australia. With the support of unexpected protectors (humans and even four-legged friends), we track one chick from each place as they grow from hatchlings to adults — learning to survive, find love, and start families of their own.
Sea Otters:
A Wild Family Adventure
With their fluffy fur, expressive faces, and playful antics, sea otters have stolen the hearts of millions, all around the world. Beyond their undeniable charm, sea otters also enable the prosperity of the kelp forests they call home. Following in the footsteps of the successful and stunning IMAX features "Turtle Odyssey" and "Sea Lions: Life By A Whisker," this new instalment will take families on a captivating adventure
